Standard teleprinter alphabets

The following table shows the four most common teleprinter alphabets used on shortwave. The normal ITA2 is more reliable on radio circuits than ITA5 (ASCII), which is rather popular in microcomputer applications.
CCIR/CCITT Recommendations defining the teleprinter alphabets listed below do not define the particular printing style, font or case (capital or small letters) of graphic characters, nor do they define the layout of keyboards in teleprinters or similar terminal devices.
The special Arabic, Cyrillic etc. teleprinter alphabets derive from ITA2.
